80s

1. Control by Janet Jackson

This is one of the most revolutionary albums of the 1980s and of all time. With the help of songwriter and producer Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Janet Jackson was able to create an album that would change how the sound of pop and R&B music was. The album has a lot of genre-bending in it, which helped it to form and develop early sounds of genres including new jack swing and contemporary R&B. The album was also innovative in its lyrical content, with Jackson being vocal on becoming business-independent from her family, her annulment and finding herself. Janet Jackson would become one of the most successful artists of all time. It also showed off the talent of the great Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who are considered some of the greatest producers and writers of all time.

2. Kamikaze by Luis Alberto Spinetta

Spinetta was one of the leading figures for rock nacional. This album would further help to prove his brilliance and innovation. It was written during the conflict of the ruling Argentinan dictatorship unsuccessfully attempting to recover the Malvinas Islands from Great Britain. This would ultimately lead to the dismantle of alliances from the country and the recovery of democracy. Seeing the conflict, Spinetta wrote songs calling for the cease of war and death, in addition to calling for understanding the complexity of the times and not degrading the sacrifice of the defeated. He does this on the album through his themes on the Japanese kamikazes and Tupac Amaru II. The album consists of two main instruments: acoustic guitar and keyboard. On occassions, there are percussion and effects. With songs such as "Kamikaze," "Ella Tambien," "Barro tal vez," and "Quedandote o yendote," the album provides a reflective, beautiful listen.
